Step Five: Write an Offer!
This is another reason to have a great REALTOR®. Making a strategic offer that will result in you getting the house for the lowest amount possible is much more complicated than you may think. It is not as simple as throwing out a number that is a certain percentage below list price. Some houses are listed way too high and occasionally some are listed too low. Preparing a Competitive Market Analysis, or a CMA, using other properties that are currently for sale, sold, and expired can help us gauge exactly what your home is worth. For more information on determining value, check out this post. This information is just for deciding what price to start at in the negotiations. Completing the purchase agreement, which can be as long as 30+ pages, without missing any details can be difficult, and usually impossible for someone who is not a real estate professional. 
Once your initial offer has been submitted there is lots of legwork that goes into the presentation, counter-offers and negotiations. Phone calls, faxes, and emails are just the beginning to make sure your offer goes through.
